ADMISSION PROCESS 2011
Admission Criteria for Different Undergraduate Courses

This time university has done away with the pre admission forms both at the university level as well as the college level. Therefore, there are no pre admission forms in Shaheed Bhagat Singh College too. The College will announce its cut offs on the respective dates as mentioned by the university in its admission schedule. The student who will qualify the cut off of the concerned course, will be eligible for provisional admission in that course, subject to the following criteria.

Minimum percentage of marks required for admission to various courses as prescribed by the University of Delhi.

B.Com. (Prog.) & B.A. Programme Courses: 40% marks in the aggregate in the last qualifying examination.

B.Com. (Hons.), B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics & B.A. (Hons.) Courses: 45% marks in the aggregate in the last qualifying examination.

Note:
I. The aggregate will be counted on the basis of one language and three best elective subjects (which may include only one relevant vocational subject for admission to Honours courses). Non-relevant subjects (academic/vocational) shall have different weightage or no weightage for calculating aggregate marks. Refer to Admission notices.

ii. The cut-off percentages for admission to the college will be much higher than the ones given on page no.


ADDITIONAL  CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO VARIOUS COURSES

B.Com. (Hons.)

Category I - Includes a student who has studied four of the following subjects: Accountancy (or Book Keeping), Commerce (or Business Studies or Business Organization or Business Management), Economics, Mathematics, Computer and relevant vocational subject.

Base Cut-Off

Category II - Includes a student who has studied only three of the subjects mentioned in category I

Base Cut-Off + 1%

Category III - Includes a student who has studied only two of the subjects mentioned in category I

Base Cut-Off + 2%

Category IV - Includes a student who has studied only one of the subjects mentioned in category I

Base Cut-Off +4%

Category V - Includes a student who has not studied any of the subjects mentioned in category I

Base Cut-Off+5%


B.Com. Prog.

Economics (Hons.)
A student must have studied Mathematics and secured 65% marks in it.

English (Hons.)

Admission to the B.A. (Hons) English course will be done through the Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE), to be held under the aegis of the Department of English, University of Delhi. The test will evaluate candidates' aptitude for the course.

The test will be held on 5th June, 2011.

The criteria for appearing in the test will be

i) A minimum of 60% marks in English( Functional, Core, Elective, etc) in the school-leaving (Class XII) examination,
AND

ii) A minimum of 60% aggregate in the best 4 subjects (including English).

The CATE score will be calculated on a 30 : 70 ratio of the Class XII aggregate marks: CATE marks .

SC/ST/PH/Foreign students are exempt from taking CATE and will be admitted as per the prevailing rules of the University.

OBC students will be given up to a maximum relaxation of 10 on the CATE cut-off score, as determined by the respective colleges, at the time of admission only.
Colleges will admit students from the CATE score list on the basis of cut-offs fixed by them respectively. There will be no centralised allocation of candidates to the different colleges by the University.

GEOGRAPHY (HONS.)

Category I - Includes a student who has studied Geography.

Base Cut-Off

Category II - Includes a student not falling in Category I.

Base Cut-Off + 5%


HINDI (HONS.)
Student must have studied Hindi Elective/Core and secured 50% marks in it.


History (Hons.)

Category I - Includes a student who has studied Humanities subjects including History
Base Cut-Off

Category II - Includes a student who has studied Humanities subjects but has not studied History.

Base Cut-Off + 2%

Category III - Includes a student who has studied Commerce or Science subjects.

Base Cut-Off + 5%

Mathematics (Hons.)

The student must have studied Mathematics till class XII

Base Cut-Off & Cut-Off in Mathematics


Political Science (Hons.)

Category I - Includes a student who has studied Political Science

Base Cut-Off + Cut-Off in Political Science

Category II - Includes a student not falling in Category I.

Base Cut-Off+5%

B.A. ( Prog. )

One language and three best subjects

Admission to Postgraduate Course

Course Offered:
M.Com.

Students are enrolled to M.Com. Course offered by the college through a centralized admission slip issued by the University of Delhi. Accordingly students are advised to register themselves at the Commerce Department in the University. Admissions are done through the Department of Commerce, University of Delhi, South Campus.
